Our Plans

The present cottages housing our intellectually challenged inmates were put up in 1979. Over the years we’ve kept repairing and rebuilding them. Three cottages, one for intellectually disabled senior citizens, the second for intellectually disabled women, and the third for the office cum visiting room have to be rebuilt. Of these the dormitories for the intellectually disabled senior citizens, and for intellectually disabled women have to be rebuilt immediately.

Our inmates are accommodated in cottages designed to blend with the rural atmosphere. The design of these cottages is simple: a large open area for the inmate’s beds and cupboards, toilets/bathing rooms and a small veranda. The cost of changing the cement asbestos roofs of all the dormitories is very high. So, we decided on installing false ceilings. With help we have been able to install false ceilings for the senior men and women’s dormitory. This has helped keep the dormitories cool. Help is needed to install false ceilings for the men’s dormitory, and the community hall.

ONGOING PROJECTS

Progress

Intellectually Disabled Senior's Dormitory
Women's Dormitory

Project 1 - Dormitory for Intellectually Disabled Senior Men and Women

A dormitory for intellectually disabled senior citizens (men & women) is being constructed. This dormitory will accommodate six men and six women, with rooms for the caretakers. About 50% of the work has been completed. Approximate cost of the dormitory for intellectually disabled senior citizens is Rs.29,00,000/- (Rupees Twenty-Nine Lakhs). This dormitory will accommodate six men and six women.

The dormitory has come up to the lintel beam level and funds are needed to complete the same.

Project 2 - Dormitory for Intellectually Disabled Women

Once the dormitory for intellectually disabled senior citizens is completed, work on the dormitory for intellectually disabled women will be taken up. The women’s dormitory which was constructed in 1980 was renovated about eleven years back. However, the dormitory has to be reconstructed now. There are presently six inmates in this dormitory and two staff members. This dormitory needs to be reconstructed immediately but as there is no temporary place to house these inmates, it was decided to first construct the dormitory for intellectually disabled senior men and women. Once this dormitory is ready the women inmates will be shifted here till their dormitory is reconstructed. This dormitory will accommodate ten women.

Approximate cost of the construction of the women’s dormitory is presently Rs.22,00,000/- (Rupees Twenty-Two Lakhs).

FUTURE PLANS

Project 1 - Paver Blocks

During the rainy season the pathways to the dormitories and community hall require continuous maintenance. This is expensive and time consuming. One of our future plans is to install paver blocks on the pathways around the Institute. Paver blocks have a slip-resistant surface, thus making them safe to walk on during the rainy season. These blocks last for a long time and are easy to clean and maintain.
